Bernice Surratt Jacksonville - Bernice McKinley Surratt, known affectionately by family and friends as "Neke," passed away peacefully on June 30, with her loving husband by her side. Bernice was born on February 29, 1936, in Literberry, the daughter of Vernon O. and Stella Draughn McKinley. She led a life filled with love, dedication, and family values that left an incredible mark on all who knew her. On November 28, 1954, Bernice married the love of her life, Herschel Surratt. Their union, which spanned an extraordinary 69 years, was a testament to their deep bond and mutual devotion. Remarkably, Bernice's marriage was one of three unions between the McKinley sisters and the Surratt brothers, highlighting the close-knit nature of their families.
